<> Track II: The App Developer Session </>

The smart phones you love are made of code. Are you ready to discover the essential building blocks behind it all? In this session, you will work in teams to design, develop, test and deploy an android app for a real customer using MIT App Inventor 2 environment.

You will learn the important concepts of object-oriented programming, the foundation of computational thinking—an essential skill in today’s tech-driven world.  You will apply design thinking to brainstorm an app idea, create a prototype, develop the application and present your final product. This session will provide you with specific tools, techniques and workflows to help you kick-off your mobile app idea the right way.

Chengyao Tang is a Computer Science graduating senior at NDSU with a plan to continue to Masters of Science in Computer Science. She studied Economic in Beijing Union University, China. After one year study, she transferred to NDSU as an international student. Inspired by her mom who is an experienced Network Engineer, she decided to switch major to Computer Science. As a female computer science student, she believes it’s important to reach out younger generation. She aims to help younger generation, especially girls, to build interest in Computer Science. During three year’s study at NDSU, she participates a lot of volunteer work for younger generation. She believes it is never too late to chase your dream.


 

Nazia Zaman, PhD, is a Software Engineer at Sundog Interactive. She primary develops software in APEX and JAVA but also has experience with Python and Javascript. Nazia obtained her PhD in Computer Science from North Dakota State University (NDSU) where her research focus was on natural language processing.

She loves to help young girls explore their curiosity so that they achieve and exceed their potential.
